Welcome back!
Students and families:
Welcome back from Thanksgiving break! I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing week off with friends and family.
We have four weeks left of the semester and a lot to learn! As students return back this week, we will be finishing up our unit on European governments and economies and then jumping right into Canada's geography.
Please remember that after-school tutorials are on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:25; all 6th graders are welcome! As always, you can reach out to me for any questions or concerns at [email protected].

Important Updates:
Greetings, students and families. We have quite a few things taking place this week!
First, students are finishing up their Benchmark Tests in every class, including social studies. Students received study guides last week, yet I have not received many back. Please be sure your students are coming to school with those completed as soon as possible for extra credit!
Secondly, we will be attending our field trip to the Alliance Theatre tomorrow. Please make sure your students come to school in uniforms; students out of uniform are unable to attend the field trip.
Next, we are knee-deep in social studies fair preparation! If your student was chosen to participate, please be sure they are working on gathering research and information in order to have it ready by Monday, Nov. 5, 2018.
Lastly, I have started after-school tutorials on Wednesdays, from 4:30-5:30 to offer a next level of enrichment to social studies students. If you would like your student to attend, please email me at [email protected]. All that is necessary is a ride home, as we no longer have buses available to drive students home from tutorial.
Happy Halloween, everybody! As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

9-Week Mark
Students and families:
We are now past our first 9 weeks of school; time is flying by! Beginning next week, students will take the first social studies benchmark test. This test will cover the first three units, which are Economic Understandings, European Geography, and The Impacts of WWI. I will be sending home a study guide on Monday and Tuesday. Please be sure your student completes it and uses it to study; extra credit will be given to those who complete it.
So far, students have had two field trips this year. Our next field trip will be in early November to the Alliance Theatre; be on the lookout for a permission slip soon!
As always, please email me at [email protected] with any questions and concerns.

6th Grade Social Studies
Week 3: August 20-24
Students and families:
Happy Tuesday!
This week, students will be continuing the Goal Setting process, in which they will set big life goals as well as smaller scale goals to help your students grow and succeed this 6th grade year. One goal for ALL of 6th grade is to read at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Your students received a goal-setting bookmark to help remind them to work towards this goal. Because we will be doing goal setting in my class, your students will not come home with social studies homework this week.
Your students will be coming home this week with a permission slip for the College Football Hall of Fame field trip on August 31st. The cost is $5 per person. If your student did not come home with a slip, please reach out and let me know. Please keep in mind that students with constant behavior infractions will not be allowed to attend the trip.
As always, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.

Weeks 1-2:
Students and families:
I hope everyone is adjusting well as we head into our first full week of 6th grade. Last week, August 1-3, we focused heavily on routines and procedures within the classroom and throughout the school while getting to know one another a little more. Students did not receive homework from me the first few days but will begin receiving Tuesday, August 7th (head over to the homework page for details!). Some other information students should expect to receive this upcoming week:
-Google Classroom: Students will receive codes for their specific social studies periods within Google Classroom, which will be used throughout the year for students to complete online assignments in class and at home.
-Weather Wise: a Google Classroom with 3 days worth of work specifically for days missed in the case of inclement weather; the class code is JHBBJH.
-Interactive Notebooks: Students will begin using their Interactive Notebooks this week to keep up with course materials, study tools, and notes; please be sure your student comes to school with a Composition Notebook specifically for this.
-Class Dojo: I will begin using Class Dojo Monday (August 6th) to track student behavior; if you'd like your child's code to keep up with his/her behavior in class, reach out!
I've attached a copy of my course syllabus to this post as well for your reference. Please feel free to contact me via email with any questions or concerns.
