About Mrs. DeSantis:
Welcome to my classroom blog! My name is Mrs. DeSantis, and I am your child's 6th grade Social Studies teacher at Sylvan Hills Middle School. I graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelors in Middle Level and Secondary Education, concentrated in ELA and social studies. Please feel free to use this blog to stay updated with what we are accomplishing in class and how your children can be best prepared for upcoming assignments and assessments. I look forward to a fantastic year with you and your children!
Credentials:
- Associates of Science from Georgia Perimeter College
- Bachelors of Science in Middle Level Education from Georgia State University, Research Honors
- Georgia teaching dual certification for middle grades education (English and social studies)
Teaching Philosophy:
I believe students deserve opportunities to develop autonomy in order to be self-driven learners and members of society. Also, I believe students’ contexts play vital roles in how they learn, so I believe teaching with cultural consciousness is imperative when supporting all students. Likewise, I believe students’ experiences impact their learning styles and needs, so I desire to offer emotional, physical, and moral support to my students along with academic support. Furthermore, I believe students must feel valued and free to be themselves within our classroom community in order to grow the most as individuals.
